misdemeanors

hands in air

Misdemeanors are serious offenses in Georgia punishable by up to 12 months in the county jail for each count.

For example, if you have 4 misdemeanors pending against you, you face a possible sentence of 48 months in jail. Misdemeanors are prosecuted in State Court by the Solicitor General’s Office.

Conviction for a misdemeanor carries many consequences in addition to time in the county jail. One can be placed on probation, required to pay large fines, submit to random drug testing, obtain an alcohol and drug evaluation from a licensed drug addiction counselor and report to probation on a monthly basis. In addition, some offenses carry a driver’s license suspension, and, if you are not a citizen you may be subjected to immigration consequences.

It is vital that you contact an attorney when charged with a misdemeanor, as the consequences of going into court without the protection provided by someone dedicated to protecting you and your rights would be dire. If you have the misfortune of finding yourself charged with a misdemeanor, please contact this office immediately. It can get better and we can help!
